Our lovely Valentine

I hope each and every one of you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day, dear friends! So, what did you get up to, a romantic dinner or a trip to the countryside or a night at the cinema? Well, I’ll tell you what we did, my darling husband and me, on our first Valentine’s Day as a married couple: we went to our Italian round the corner and had a pizza and two bottles of wine. Simple as that. Simple but oh so romantic!

As I told you a few days ago, I think it’s unnecessary to spend a lot of money on Valentine’s Day – it’s much better to invest feelings. As for our mutual presents, my darling Ian gave me a box of chocolates and a lovely new dress (for £13), and I gave him a book for £7. Then, in the evening, as I said, we went to our local Italian and had a fantastic dinner there. It’s a nice, ordinary little place, not expensive and certainly not posh, basically just a pizza delivery service with a few tables on the premises. But the staff are wonderful, and the food is great!

So, we had a huge ‘Piggy’ pizza with ham, bacon and spicy Sicilian salami, a salad, a bottle of wine each, a dessert each – and lots and lots of fun and romantic moments! Watching the traffic outside, the beautiful red London busses pass by, the people coming home and then going out again, listening to the music from the loudspeakers, taking a few selfies, talking and laughing all evening…

And after we’d paid the bill, we still had lots of time and a bit of money on our hands, and so we went two blocks further down the road to our lovely little Irish local, had a drink there and watched the darts matches on the big TV screen – it’s so wonderful when you share a lot of interests with your loved one!

When the pub was about to close, we went home – and found something else, and entirely free, to do there: we opened up the computer and that huge jukebox called YouTube, and had a great music night, choosing tracks in turn, everything from the Beatles to Louisiana swamp music. What could get you more into the mood…?

In short, the PERFECT Valentine’s Day! How did you spend yours, my friends? I’d love to hear your little (or maybe big) adventures! And don’t forget: make every day Valentine’s Day, don’t wait until next year, be romantic every day…
